Stories From Those Who Served

At the 2022 Washburn County Fair, Wisconsin Humanities Community Powered, Spooner Memorial Library, and UW-Extension came together to launch the “Stories From Those Who Served” Project to record, preserve, and share the stories of Veterans with a connection to Washburn County. At the fair and at the library, we conducted oral history interviews with six local Veterans: John Bodzislaw, Dale Kuhl, Jerry Bahrke, Howard Hill, and Jim Bishop. Some of whom have elected to gift their oral history recording to the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Oral History Collection. This event began through a 2022-23 partnership between Spooner Memorial Library and Wisconsin Humanities Community Powered initiative.

Oral history kits are now available for check out at the Library for those who are interested in conducting oral history interviews at home or in the community. Veterans interested in recording their story with the library can contact Angie at director@spoonerlibrary.org.
